Our Story

How it all started...

This congregation began September 12, 1954, as an afternoon Sunday School conducted by the members of Neptune Full Gospel Assembly with Vernon Anderson as founder. On August 24th, of 1955, the church was organized and incorporated with the name Full Gospel Tabernacle. The first services were held in the old Cannon building on the corner of Bridge Ave and Dorset Dock Road. Howard Warden from the church in Neptune gave $3,800 to purchase three choice lots, in our present location, for a church building. In September, 1955, Rev. Rudolph Greco became the first Pastor and one year later, 1956, the church building was completed. Rev. Alfred Thomas became the second pastor in October of 1957. He served until November of 1958 and resigned. Rev. Jack Mitchell became the third pastor in November of 1958. During his time as Pastor the church mortgage was paid off and burned, and the church parsonage was built. The church continued to grow and in 1962 plans were made to add onto the church building. The addition was completed in 1964.  Rev. Richard Banach became the fourth pastor in November of 1964. On January 15, 1965 the church filed an amendment and changed the name to First Assembly of God.

Expanding the vision...

The mortgage on the 1964 addition was paid off in the spring of 1968. Renovations to the basement of the church started in 1968 and were completed in 1969. Brother Banach served as the pastor for 9 years. On May 26, 1974 Rev. Don Miller was voted in as the Sr. Pastor. Under Bro. Miller's leadership the church saw much growth and land was secured for a new church building. Before the building project began Bro. Miller had a heart attack and stepped down as the Sr. Pastor. His associate, Rev. Daniel Chadwick, was voted in as the new pastor. Pastor Chadwick served as the Sr. Pastor of First Assembly for over ten years. He resigned from the position in 2000. That same year Rev. David Kaiser became the Pastor. He served the church for eight years and resigned from his position in November of 2008. From November of '08- May of '09 Rev. Don Miller served as the interim pastor. Due to the diminishing size of the congregation the church became district supervised and District Superintendent, Rev. Carl Colletti; Sectional Presbyter, Pastor Ken Jasko; Pastor Denis Snyder and Pastor Frank Jacobs became the temporary governing body of the church. This is the next step in what happened....

Where we are headed...

Following an invitation by the district supervising group, Pastor Ray and Patti Tate visited and ministered at First Assembly on Sunday, March 22, 2009. After several days of waiting on the Lord for direction, Pastor Ray and Patti accepted the invitation of the district committee and the congregation to become the pastor. Under Pastor Ray and Patti's leadership the church experienced a season of growth and stability. On September 15, 2009 the church name was officially changed to Life Chapel. On November 17, 2012, the members unanimously adopted a new Constitution & By-Laws. God continued to bless the ministries of Life Chapel under Pastor Ray's leadership. The children and youth ministries were rebirthed and the Mosaic Men's and Women's ministries were created. In the fall of 2011 the church building received an extreme makeover, called the Nehemiah Project. This renovation updated our kitchen, bathrooms, children's area and sanctuary so that they can be used more effectively for the work of the ministry. God's heart for missions has spread to the congregation of Life Chapel, giving $94,566 in support of local and foreign missionaries in 2018. Even in the local community we serve to provide ways in which people can connect and grow in their relationship with Christ; whether it be through Trunk or Treat, The Children's Nativity Play, VBS or most recently through multiple Christmas Eve Services and Easter services.
Pastor Ray retired at the end of June 2019. Pastor Brian Fisher was voted in as the new Lead Pastor in April 2019 with a start day of July 1st 2019. With the current health of the church and through the Holy Spirit’s selection of Pastor Brian, the church is looking forward with much hope and expectation of the great things God has in store for Life Chapel and our community!
