Our Story

How it all started...

This congregation began September 12, 1954, as an afternoon Sunday School conducted by the members of Neptune Full Gospel Assembly with Vernon Anderson as founder. Officially organized and incorporated in 1955, the first services were held on the corner of Bridge Ave and Dorsett Dock Road. The church welcomed its first pastor, bought three choice lots along Bridge Avenue, and completed the building in 1956. The church continued to grow, and in 1962, plans were made to add onto the church building. The addition was completed in 1964, and in 1965 the church officially changed the name to First Assembly of God.

Expanding the vision...

From 1965 to 2009, the church went through many stages of ministry here in Point Pleasant. Various pastors served at different times and led the church through seasons of growth and change. Pastor Ray and Patti Tate visited and ministered at First Assembly on Sunday, March 22, 2009. After several days of waiting on the Lord for direction, they accepted the invitation to become the pastor. Under Pastor Ray and Patti's ten years of leadership, the church experienced an incredible season of growth and stability. The church name was officially changed to Life Chapel, the children and youth ministries were rebirthed, men's & women's ministries created, and the church was majorly renovated to be used more effectively for the work of the ministry. The church gave generously to world missions and participated in local outreaches to bless the Point Pleasant community. Pastor Ray retired at the end of June 2019. Pastor Brian Fisher was voted in as the new Lead Pastor in April 2019 with a start day of July 1st 2019.

Where we are headed...

Pastor Brian led the church through the unique months of online church and outdoor services; helping us to stay personally connected and gathering in homes. His heart for local and global missions has led us to be engaged in many different projects and to give generously. Jeannie has brought fresh ideas to our children's and women's ministries. Together they have led the way in engaging with the community, building personal relationships, revitalizing church ministries and building teams to accomplish the vision of God's church.

New initiatives such as Taste of Life Chapel, Project Serve and Friday night fun events have been a huge part of building genuine friendships and community partnerships. All this to point people to life in Jesus Christ!
